Losing Weight with Nutrimost

By  Dr. Jon Thomas D.C PSc.D, Board Certified Chiropractic Physician.

Testimonials of Transformation

The media bombards all of us with an idealized image of health and fitness. Weight loss programs are everywhere. The problem is that these programs try to squeeze everyone into the same box and mold them into the one-size-fits-all image of health. Every human being is unique, and so are our expressions of life and health.

At the Vibrant Life Health Center, our desire and commitment is to empower each of our patients with life-saving knowledge. We strive daily to help all of our patients realize a healthier and happier lifestyle with less sickness, less disease, and fewer preventable deaths. A world where children are healthier, families are happier, and marriages and relationships are enriched.

Most weight loss programs will tell people that they have to count calories to lose weight. This is their core principle. If you lower caloric intake and increase your activity level, you will lose weight. The most common way to do this is to either plan a diet with certain foods to restrict  daily calorie intake or provide pre-packaged food from a box. The problem with this approach is that people gain their lost weight right back.

Here’s why. As you lower your caloric intake, your metabolism slows down because it has less work to do. With most programs, after the weight is lost, people go back to eating a normal, sustainable amount of food each day. However, since their metabolism has slowed, it can’t process all the food. Excess calories get stored right back in the body as fat.

At Vibrant Life, we use NutriMost Resonant Frequency Technology (NRFT) to develop a customized plan for each patient. With NRFT, we find the patient’s specific weaknesses, balance the imbalances, and strengthen the body to reach optimal health. No other weight loss program has the technology to do this.

NRFT enables the body to communicate its needs without any guessing. Using galvanic skin response, the technology sends specific messages to the body and monitors the physiochemical response. NRFT allows the more than 400 million communications that occur per second in the human body to be assessed accurately. Comparisons to the baseline allow for analysis. We use the data to identify biological preferences, biomarkers that are out of range, and areas in which the body may be weak or imbalanced.

NRFT takes a hormonal fingerprint to determine the exact blueprint a person needs to follow to bring the body into an optimal state of fat burning and health. It gives us the capability to measure and assist the body’s innate healing abilities in ways that have never previously been possible. With NRFT, patients lose weight faster, more easily, and more safely than ever before.
Here are a few examples of the success people have had at losing weight with NutriMost.

Debbie’s Story

“The program was much easier than I thought it would be. There were lots of recipes in the book. I was able to get everything I needed from the grocery store. I thought sticking with the program was going to be difficult. However, I was never hungry. About a week into the program I felt so much energy! I used to lay down every day for about an hour. I don’t need to do that anymore. That gives me an extra hour every day to do whatever I need to do. My results were actually better than the goals I set at the beginning. I lost twenty pounds and I lost them in the places where I needed to lose them. I’m fitting into size eights that I could not fit into before.”

Ed’s Story

“I thought the hard part was going to be the hunger I anticipated on the low calorie diet. I found that it wasn’t hard. I wasn’t hungry and I was content with what I was eating.  I felt better throughout the process than I have in the last fifteen years. I had more energy. I slept better. I gradually stopped snoring. My wife liked that! One amazing part of the process is that you expect to feel bad, but that was not the case. I felt better during the forty day burn than I’ve felt in the fifteen years prior to that. I lost 75 pounds. I’m off of blood pressure medication  and cholesterol medication.”

Kathy’s Story

“I love the fact that the program was very structured and it told me exactly what to do. I thought that the restriction on calories was going to be difficult and I thought I was going to be hungry. That didn’t happen. This was the easiest program I have ever been on. There was never a thought of cheating. I understood from the science of the program that cheating would really derail my progress. I wasn’t hungry and I didn’t deviate from the program at all. I feel fantastic. I just turned fifty. Since completing this program, I feel like I’m thirty again.  I feel better mentally and physically. I lost twenty-three pounds.  I love the way some of my clothes don’t fit because they’re too big for me now. I feel healthy again.” Kathy's video

These stories are not exceptions. These are typical examples of the phenomenal  results real people are experiencing with NutriMost. The program is easy to follow and easy to stick with. People who commit to it and follow through are seeing extraordinary results. No one has to go on being overweight!

Counting calories is not the key to losing weight. The most effective way to lose fat is balancing hormones and neurotransmitters, detoxifying the body, and balancing vitamins and minerals in a way that turns you into an incredible fat burning zone.  NRFT will determine exactly what your body is missing and will allow you to safely lose twenty to forty pounds or more in only 40 days.

In this article, I have explained how the NutriMost Resonant Feedback Technology helps the team at Vibrant Life to develop customized weight loss programs for patients. This article includes testimonials from three patients who have lost weight with the Nutrimost program.

Ergonomically Correct Office Space

By  Dr. Jon Thomas D.C PSc.D, Board Certified Chiropractic Physician.

How to Maximize Comfort and Productivity

Ergonomics is the study of people's efficiency in working environments. A workspace that takes ergonomics into consideration can make a big difference to your health and posture, especially if you’re sitting down for a significant part of the day. Your office workspace should be spine-friendly. Here are some of the ways you can boost comfort and productivity.

Start with a good chair

When purchasing a chair for your office, take everything into consideration. This includes its surface, upper and lower back support, how it adjusts, and more. Don’t scrimp on your office chair. You’ll be spending some serious time together. Here are some of the main things to think about.

Surface: Vinyl requires little care. It’s also easy to keep leather clean. Full grain leather is the best, top grain is good, and split grain is the least expensive. A seat with cloth will will prevent the accumulation of sweat, since it is breathable. Mesh is the best for air circulation, but it may not be the best choice for support for some people.

Cushioning: Make sure the padding is thick enough so it won’t bottom out. Buying a high quality chair will pay off in durability for the cushioning.

Back Support: The chair should provide comfortable support for both your lower and upper back. Many chairs can be adjusted for lower back support.  If this area can be customized with adjustments, it may help you to get maximum comfort.

Fit: The height of a quality office chair can easily be adjusted. Make sure the chair can be adjusted so that your feet are flat on the floor when your knees are bent at about ninety degrees. If you’re looking at chairs with fixed armrests, make sure they are comfortable and that they will allow you to get as close to your desk as needed for your work. Most chairs come with adjustable armrests that can be adjusted up and down to a level you’re comfortable with. Armrests usually cannot be moved from side to side. For that reason, it’s important to get a chair that is the correct width. When you go to an office furniture showroom, sit in the chairs the same way you would in your office. Roll chairs up to a desk to get a sense of how they would feel in an office.

Adjustments: You want to be aware of all the adjustments that can be made so you can be as comfortable as possible in your workspace. Have the salesperson show you everything. Depending on the chair, items that can be adjusted may include the back tilt, the seat tilt, extensions for support of the thighs, and the back height.
If you work in an office where your chair is provided by your employer, you may have to make do with what you’re given. Nevertheless, take a good look at the chair and make sure you’re aware of all the ways it can be adjusted so you can get the most out of it. Also, consider adding a nice personal chair cushion and/or a lumbar support attachment. Neither of those items cost very much and they could make your office chair much more comfortable.

Keyboard, monitor, and mouse

Desktop computers are generally more comfortable to work with than laptops. The basic sitting position in an office space should have your elbows and knees bent at about 90 degrees. The computer mouse should be within comfortable reach of the keyboard. The monitor should be at eye level between 20 and 30 inches from your face. The monitor should be tilted slightly at about 10 to 20 degrees.

Some people stick with the basic keyboard and mouse that comes with a computer until those components wear out. A mouse and keyboard is one of the most inexpensive ways to ergonomically improve a workspace. Some people find a wireless mouse easier to work with than one that has a cable. Also, a wireless keyboard with an ergonomic shape will be an enormous improvement over any straight keyboard your computer may have come with. (If you use a laptop, consider buying an external mouse and keyboard. Your spine will thank you.)

Keyboard

Courtesy of Wikimedia
An ergonomic keyboard is curved and raised in the center. It takes some getting used to. It will keep the wrists straight when the elbows are at the user’s side.  If you don’t spend much time entering numbers, you might consider getting a keyboard without a numeric keypad. This will enable you to keep the mouse closer to the area where you’re typing.
Adjust your keyboard so the home keys are right in front of you. They should be close and low enough so your forearms stay straight. A keyboard drawer or tray may be needed to get things aligned correctly.

Mouse

There are lots of variables with computer mice. Some people like mice with trackballs. Others prefer an optical mouse. Mice come in different shapes and sizes. They’re not very expensive, so get one that you are comfortable with.
A computer mouse has settings that can be changed. If you’re left handed, you can change the button functions to make your mouse left-handed. You can adjust the speed to reduce the distance you need to move the mouse.

Monitor

For people who spend much of their workday looking at computer screens, eye strain is a serious issue. High quality monitors are worth the cost because they will help to minimize eye strain. If you look at a computer screen for a large portion of your workday, it shouldn’t be an unpleasant experience. Some experts say a monitor should be just above eye level. Others say it should be slightly below eye level and tilted slightly away. It may take some experimentation in your workspace to determine what the best setup is for you. If you’re having any problems with eye strain, it’s also a good idea to adjust some of your monitor settings to see what setting will help to minimize any eye strain issues.

Do You Have Computer Neck Syndrome?

If you spend the majority of your day in front of a computer, you could wind up with a case of Computer Neck Syndrome.  This malaise is caused by long periods of staring at a computer screen.  Over time, the weight of your head will slowly begin to adversely affect the curvature of your spine, resulting in neck ache, back ache and headaches. (An offshoot of this syndrome is called text neck, which is caused by people hunching over their smartphones to send text messages.)

Both these problems are caused by forward head position (FHP), which leads to an unnatural straightening of the cervical spine. This causes improper loading of the spine that over time will lead to degenerative changes, including pinched nerves.  While chiropractic treatment and exercise can repair the damage, the best way to thwart FHP is to change the angle at which you view your computer or smartphone.

While it seems that there are a myriad of variables to consider when it comes to maximizing comfort and productivity in the workplace, making the right choices in the short term will more than pay for themselves over the long haul.

In this article, I have explained some of the key factors to creating an office workspace that is ergonomic. This article discusses the chair, keyboard, mouse, and monitor. It also discusses how to avoid eye strain and Computer Neck Syndrome.

The Many Facets of Chiropractic

By  Dr. Jon Thomas D.C PSc.D, Board Certified Chiropractic Physician.

Many people are first introduced to a chiropractor after they sustain an injury due to an accident, a fall, or simply the wear and tear induced by the rigors of life. No single technique or adjustment style, chiropractic utilizes a myriad of treatment modalities designed to adjust the musculoskeletal system in order to resolve many issues that cause pain. In order to bring the body back into balance, there are a number of chiropractic treatments that are very effective for resolving these issues.
The Cox® Table at Vibrant Life

Cox® Technique

Cox® Technic is a non-surgical, doctor-controlled, hands-on spinal manipulation performed with the patient lying on The Cox® Table. The goal of Cox® Technic is to reduce a patient’s pain as quickly as possible. This technique utilizes flexion-distraction and decompression to relieve spinal pain in order to return patients to their desired quality of life by:
  • Reducing internal disc pressure
  • Widening the spinal canal area
  • Opening the space for nerve roots
  • Reducing pressure on the spinal nerves
  • Returning motion to all the spinal joints.

Extremities Techniques

Chiropractic health is much more than simply having a straight, healthy spine. It encompasses optimal extremity function and performance, balance, energy, pain reduction or elimination, nutrition, brain and organ function, muscle performance and development, and more. A Chiropractor can diagnose and treat the root causes of recurring pain in the spine and also the extremities. He/she is equipped to successfully treat all of the following:
  • temporomandibular joint and muscle disorder (TMJ)
  • shoulder girdle syndrome
  • tennis elbow
  • carpal tunnel
  • knee subluxation
  • baker’s cysts
  • sprained ankles
  • shin splints
  • foot and gait mechanics
  • misaligned hips
  • leg length issues.

Thompson Technique

The Thompson Technique utilizes a Segmental Drop Table to enhance the motion force imparted towards the segment or area that needs to be adjusted. Dr. Thompson introduced the concept of adding motion by inventing a headpiece that would drop away as the adjustive thrust was applied to the vertebral segment. The Segmental Drop System utilizes the spine’s inherent design in order to move the spinal segment in the direction that will improve the motion of the segment with the one above and below. Since the spinal joints face front to back and have an incline that naturally slopes backwards, a chiropractor can affect increased motion by applying an adjustment from posterior to anterior. The Thompson Technique allows the practitioner to elicit adjustment into segmental areas of the spine without introducing high forces. This allows the chiropractor to address sensitive areas with care that is both effective and gentle.

Activator Method

The Activator Method incorporates the latest advances in orthopedic, neurological, and chiropractic science. This technique is based on low force and high speed activation of the skeletal structure. The Activator Method is now the most widely used “low force” technique in chiropractic. This system of adjusting restores proper balance and does it with improved safety and comfort. The Activator Method utilizes a small spring-loaded adjusting instrument to deliver a focused corrective impulse into the dysfunctional spinal segment. This technique is most commonly used in patients who prefer a low-force correction without the traditional “hands-on” thrust.

Diversified Technique

The Diversified Technique is the most commonly used adjustment technique by chiropractors. Like many chiropractic and osteopathic manipulative techniques, the Diversified Technique is characterized by a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust. Diversified is considered the most generic chiropractic manipulative technique and is differentiated from other techniques in that its objective is to restore proper movement and alignment of spine and joint dysfunction.

FAKTR

FAKTR (pronounced “factor”) is a revolutionary technique for treating soft tissue problems. It is effective for many conditions including headaches, back pain, shoulder problems, pain in the elbows, foot problems, and other injuries to the extremities. People are injured all the time through falls, auto accidents, sports injuries, and their work. Some injuries bother people for a long time before they seek treatment. Some people seek treatment very soon after they experience a new condition. Either way, there are many problems that can be resolved within a few treatments with the FAKTR Technique.

Electrical Stimulation Therapy

Electrical Stimulation Therapy uses an electrical current to cause a single muscle or a group of muscles to contract. By placing electrodes on the skin in various locations, the practitioner can recruit the appropriate muscle fibers. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle.

The practitioner can change the setting to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood supply to the area that assists in healing. Vibrant Life Health Center utilizes the following applications:
  • Inferential E-Stem
  • Premod E-Stem
  • Russian E-Stem
  • Micro Current
  • Ultra Sound
  • High Volt Galvanic
  • Active Tissue Therapy
Applying tension to injured tissue while it is in active motion allows a practitioner to break down scar tissue and address the inured response of supportive facial, muscular, vascular, and other tissues. This increases healing, function, and strength in the affected areas.

Adhesion Breakers

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) instruments have been used for centuries in Chinese medicine. In recent years, they have been further developed and improved by Adhesion Breakers. IASTM instruments are designed to be used with other modalities to increase the effectiveness of the soft tissue work being performed. This technique helps to correct the adhesions and scar tissue that form due to injury and inflammation from injuries, surgeries, and overuse/underuse conditions.
By increasing tissue elasticity and fibroblastic activity, muscles and surrounding tissues can be returned to a status as close as possible to the pre-injury condition. This is accomplished by initiating a controlled inflammatory process which allows the tissue to begin the healing process.  Breaking down scar tissue and adhesions in the tissue, and redirecting collagen formation in the proper orientation helps to improve movement of muscles and tissues.

Kinesio-taping

Kinesio Tape has been in existence for over 25 years. When it is adhered to the skin, it lifts the tissue away from the injured area and fascia. This allows blood to flow properly and alleviates swelling, thus promoting healing. There are numerous specified taping techniques used to facilitate the healing process.

In this article I’ve provided summaries of chiropractic techniques used by Vibrant Life Health Center. These techniques can be used to reduce or eliminate pain and to correct problems with spinal alignment. These techniques can also be used to address issues in the extremities.
