Life is a beautiful thing! Coming into the Holiday season is a time for family dinners, holiday gatherings, and sharing magical moments. Health issues can tend to hinder the joy of the season when there is a condition that limits our opportunity to enjoy our time. In a recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine, Americans increase their weight by 0.6% through the holiday season in just 1 and ½ months! What’s worse is that another study published in U.S. News World and Report shows that a lot of us never lose it! It accumulates year after year, potentially leading to health problems such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and even cancer. The great news is that we can take steps to avoid this unfortunate side effect of the season’s traditions; here are five ways to give the gift of health during this joyous season!
The best gift to give someone is the gift of health, there are a number of alternative health services many have thought about trying or want to do and during the holidays these can be available at special rates! Weight Loss consultations, chiropractic consultations, massage certificates, acupuncture sessions, spa services, even lab tests can be purchased ahead and given as a gift. Health Club memberships, personal training sessions, and gift certificates to the local health food stores are great ideas as well.
Health Gadgets

There are many options to consider when thinking about health-related gadgets and many of them are very impactful! Fitness monitors are one of the most popular options on the market today from tracking exercise to calories these tools can fit into anyone’s health improvement plans. Other ideas that could be considered are; supplement organizers, shake mixers, and sport drinking containers that are offered today with special drinking apparatuses or spring mixing balls, the options are endless!
Fitness Gear
Giving gear is one of the coolest gift ideas available, from home workout gear like a-wheels and resistance bands to punching bags and gloves, there are endless options depending on the interest of the special someone you're thinking about this year. Yoga, Cyclists, runners, golfers, essentially any sport has gear involved and to the users this can be a gift that provides joy throughout the year! Additionally, gear-fitting certificates can be very beneficial like golf club fitting or bike fitting for the cyclist on your list!
Health Classes
Another consideration is exercise classes. It can be a stressful time as the holidays approach so getting someone a Gift Card for yoga, Zumba, swimming, stretching, spinning classes can be a fun gift for any level. Stepping into a more advanced level a gift card for body sculpting, body pump, cross fit or even hip hop classes is a great way to add to someone’s health journey!
Magazines, Books, etc.

Don’t forget the gift of knowledge! People love magazine subscriptions so why not send them a Health or Fitness magazine even a healthy cooking magazine. They offer dozens of topics from improving your health, gaining better balance, boosting energy, and losing weight to learning alternative ways to prevent cancer, dementia, skin issues, and gut problems, etc. Yearly memberships to health related blogs or electronic publications are also options. There are many places locally that offer excellent education courses for no charge maybe make it a fun night out together!
In closing…. the holidays are a great time of the year, wonderful memories are made and cherished just remember Health is something we need every day of our lives, we need to give to our health like we prepare for the holidays. Give the gift of health it will be the best gift anyone can receive….. Be Blessed Dr. Jon
