The 12 Gifts of Good Health

By Dr. Jon Thomas, DC, Board Certified Chiropractic Physician.
People frequently say that when you have your health, you have just about everything. I couldn’t agree more; in fact, your health is your greatest asset and an area of life that you should spare no expense to maintain! Possessions, homes, and cars can usually be replaced. When you lose your health, those items no longer really matter and it can be difficult to impossible to regain health once it is lost.
Getting healthy requires some effort. An understanding that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure is critical. For someone who is overweight and out of shape, it takes even more work as what would be thought of as maintenance steps will not be effective enough to overcome the decayed health condition present. Staying healthy is a bit easier, but it still requires some effort.
With that in mind, here are twelve of the interconnected benefits of good health.

Cardiovascular: When the cardiovascular system doesn’t work properly, people feel it. Heart problems slow people down and keep them from being able to do many things. On the other hand, a healthy heart provides a fundamental step in keeping the body healthy and nutrients getting to all the right places. It provides endurance for running, swimming, climbing mountains, and doing the things that you love to do!
General strength: For most people, lifting things is part of everyday life. Whether the object being lifted is a baby, a bag of groceries, or a piece of furniture that needs to be moved, a person’s ability to lift is part of his or her overall strength. The stronger a person is, the more he or she can lift comfortably. For people who aren’t very strong, lifting objects that are too heavy can lead to injuries. Sometimes weaknesses can lead to poor movement patterns, handicaps, and pain.

Core stability and balance: One thing that can become a serious challenge as human beings grow older is maintaining a good sense of balance. When an elderly person loses his or her sense of balance, there may be falls which result in injuries. Having a good strong core produces the balance we need.
Clarity of thinking: When you’re in good health, you think more clearly. It’s easier to figure things out and make good decisions. In the information age, thinking is an important part of almost every job. Whether you’re thinking about your work, family matters, or how to get home through heavy traffic, being in good health helps keep you focused.
Mental health: We all know the importance of dental hygiene, but what about mental hygiene? A healthy mind and a healthy body go together. Very often when a person is suffering from serious mental illness, it can be tracked back to a chemical imbalance that has been going on for a long time.

Peace of mind: With all the devices people now have and all the information we have coming at us all the time, peace of mind can be elusive. Finding peace of mind and holding onto it are by-products of good health. Doing things that unravel your days and stresses can lead to much better on and off times for your life!
Sleep: Sleep is critical for health as it is at this time your body is resting and healing! In fact it is also when your body burns fat! People who are overweight may be prone to having sleep apnea, which can be a deadly problem. Losing weight and getting in shape is a much better solution to that problem. Musculoskeletal health also comes into play for good sleep. When something is out of alignment, it can cause the kind of discomfort that keeps people tossing and turning at night. Thus, getting into alignment through specific scientific chiropractic care can play a big part in getting a good night’s sleep.
Weight control: When the metabolism is operating like a well-oiled machine, you burn more energy. Getting the metabolism to run well requires a balance of numerous factors. This includes consuming the proper nutrients,  lack of disruptive foods, proper supplementation, hormone balance, and numerous other items. Some people are born with a fast metabolism and others aren’t. The good thing is that steps can be taken to get the metabolism in balance and improved!
Good sex life: When that part of a person’s life is going well, it contributes to an overall sense of wellbeing. However, having a good sex life can be challenging when there are health issues. If some part of the musculoskeletal system is out of alignment, it can be a challenge simply to move some parts of the body. Also, if the cardiovascular system is not in proper working order, a person may not have the endurance to have a satisfying sex life. Good health and a good sex life go together very naturally.
Ability to fight disease and recover from injuries: Everyone experiences attacks on their immune systems from time to time. Part of good health is having an immune system that is ready and able to overcome attacks.  The immune system also plays a big part in healing from injuries.  When the immune system is working as it should, injuries heal relatively quickly. When the immune system is not working so well, healing can take longer.
Higher energy level: Good health provides energy. It’s somewhat like the engine in a car. When all the components are in good working order, the car functions properly. If the cooling system fails or all the oil leaks out, the car will run poorly or it will stop running entirely.
Long life and prosperity: On Star Trek, whenever Mr. Spock was parting ways with a friend, he would say, “Live long and prosper.” Most people would like to live long and prosper. Good health is the key to doing exactly that.

If you feel like you’re not running on all cylinders, today is the day to begin doing something about it. At Vibrant Life Health Center, we can help you to get things into balance in three areas that are essential for health and longevity.
Nutrition and maintaining a healthy weight. Dr. Thomas has helped hundreds of patients lose thousands of pounds and keep the weight off. It’s not all about the numbers on the scale. Resetting the metabolism is the key to keeping weight off after a person loses it.
Functional Fitness. Exercise increases muscle mass and decreases excess fat. It is also essential for long-term health and wellness. An effective workout plan can help people to burn fat and get into optimal shape in short order.
Spine health and the central nervous system. The spinal column protects the spinal cord. Messages from the brain flow through the spinal cord and nerves to the rest of the body. If the spinal column is out of alignment, the result is a communication blockage.
