Why Most Diets Are Doomed

By Dr. Jon Thomas

Almost everyone at some point in their lives decides they want to lose a few pounds.  That’s a given. Through either the action of time or circumstance, most of us wake up one morning and look in the mirror only to decide that we don’t like what we see staring back at us.  The problem is when that fateful day occurs, when you decide it’s time to trim down, there is no simple solution.  That’s because while there are nearly as many diet plans as there are stars in the sky, trying to find one that actually works is nearly as complicated as putting a man on the Moon.

All Diets Are NOT Created Equal

Bob lost over 40 pounds in 40 days with NutriMost at Vibrant Life.

When it comes to health and fitness, everybody has a different set of challenges. At Vibrant Life we meet people where they are at with programs that address their specific needs. We assess all of the issues patients are facing and then put together our programs for them.
We help people to attain the levels of health that they’ve been dreaming of. Bob lost a lot of weight and he’s continuing to work toward his fitness goals. He recently appeared on a Life in Balance segment with me on First Coast Living.
“I had a co-worker who told me that NutriMost really worked for him,” Bob said. “I was an electronics technician in the Navy. When I checked into NutriMost and I heard about the resonant frequencies used in the program, that appealed to my technical background. The personal contact in the program is one of the keys. Checking in every day helped me to stay accountable.
“Dr. Thomas is an amazing encourager. His responses always encouraged me to stick with it. I’m trying to get back to the same weight I was when I retired from the Navy over 20 years ago. I lost 40 pounds in 40 days while I was on NutriMost. My total weight loss so far is 56 pounds, and my goal is to lose a total of 80 pounds. My wife is very happy, and several of my co-workers are now looking to start on the program.”

15 patients have lost 580 pounds in 20 to 40 days on NutriMost in the past few months.
The NutriMost program shows people why they’ve been having trouble transforming their bodies the way they want to. As people go through the program they realize that wellness is so much more than a number on a scale.
Obesity is a very serious problem and health experts are now predicting that we’re going to see shorter life spans because of it. We’ve got to make changes. NutriMost educates patients about the changes they need to make and then enables and empowers them to make those changes.
We partner with our patients and walk through this process with them. At the end of 20 days or 40 days, people are lighter and many are off some, or all, of their medications. Just as importantly, they have the strategies and the tools they need to continue toward their wellness objectives.
One thing I hear over and over from patients like Bob is that the personal contact has an enormous impact on how they do with the program. They know that when they face a particular challenge, they can get an answer very quickly. Not in a day, or two, or in four hours. They can frequently get an answer to their questions in less than an hour.
I believe that keeping in close touch with patients communicates to them that I care about how they’re doing. Patients find that highly motivating. I’m very motivated by seeing patients succeed. That’s truly a win-win!
By the time people finish a cycle on NutriMost, they have the knowledge and the tools they need moving forward. They also know that there’s a place they can always go back to for answers to any questions they may have.

Life in Balance Tip: Do the right types of diet and exercise for your body type.
Wondering what kind of exercise to do? Although many people don’t realize it, different activities work better for different body types. Think about that. An exercise program that works well for one person might not work for someone with a different body type. There are mainly three body types: Ectomorph, Endomorph, and Mesomorph.
Ectomorphs usually have a fast metabolism and they have trouble gaining muscle mass. Since one of the goals of an ectomorph should be to gain weight, bodybuilding for ectomorphs should address that need. Cardio exercises which burn calories should be kept to a minimum. Ectomorph should consume lots of calories from complex carbohydrates. This will help them with anabolic weight gain.
Endomorphs are the opposite of ectomorphs. Endomorphs have slower metabolisms which store extra calories. Endomorphs gain weight easily and they struggle to lose body fat. The main goal for endomorphs is to burn body fat. Exercises for endomorphs should include several cardio sessions each week. Weight training should be done at a fast pace with lots of repetitions. Diet is especially important for endomorphs. In order to lose weight, they must burn more calories each day than they consume. The best diets for endomorphs are high in protein and moderate in fat and complex carbohydrates. They should avoid snacks.
Mesomorphs usually have a genetic advantage which helps them to build lean muscle mass. Mesomorphs frequently look athletic without really training. They benefit from nearly any training regimen. Mesomorphs do well with alternating exercise programs.
Three keys to exercise that produces positive results.

Never lose sight of your goals. The brain works best when it is focused on a specific target. The more focused a person is, the more likely he or she is to succeed. Take time to identify exactly what your objectives are. Do you want to gain muscle, to lose body fat or both? Identifying your fitness destination is a big step toward getting there.
Balance diet with exercise. Whether your goal is to add muscle or burn fat, exercise and diet work best together. A low-calorie diet will help you to lose body fat, but it won’t help you to build muscle mass. To achieve your goals, you need a diet which complements your exercise regimen.
Customize your exercise program. Whether your wellness goals include burning fat or building muscle, make adjustments to your diet and exercise program. As you find what works for you and what doesn’t, make adjustments to your diet and exercise. Tweaking things once in a while will help you to develop an integrated program which will help you to achieve your objectives.

Why is losing weight so difficult?

by Dr. Jon Thomas DC, PScD, Director of Vibrant Life Health Center

Many Americans made New Year’s resolutions to lose weight a few months ago. Some have had success and are achieving their weight loss and fitness objectives. Others, who may have started the year with a tremendous amount of resolve, have not had the same success. Lots of people have trouble losing weight. There are a number of factors that come into play when people have trouble following through on their New Year’s resolutions to lose weight. Here are some of the most common reasons.

Fat Loss vs. Weight Loss

Not all pounds are created equally. Whereas a pound of fat stores calories, a pound of lean muscle actually burns calories. When the focus is solely on losing weight, it can be lost in the form of both fat and muscle. The ideal way to lose weight is to lose fat as opposed to losing both fat and muscle. Burning fat while retaining calorie-burning muscle mass will obviously produce the best long term results.  This is why exercise, general fitness, and weight loss go so well together. When people who are trying to lose weight also build up their muscle mass through exercise, they’re improving their bodies’ ability to burn calories.

Calorie counting and calorie cutting sound good, but it doesn’t always work.

Some people look at weight loss as a mathematical equation. They think that if they can just manage to take in fewer calories while they burn more calories through exercise, they will naturally lose weight. It’s logical and it can work for a while. However, something funny happens to the metabolism of some people as they lose weight. The metabolism adjusts to that new condition. It slows down so as to reduce the number of calories it burns to operate.

Fad diets and cracker jack weight loss products also sound good.

Dozens of fad diets have come and gone in the past few decades. That trend is not likely to change due to the sheer number of people who want to lose weight. Many fad diets achieve weight loss by reducing the intake of carbohydrates. The result is actually a dramatic water weight loss. Water weight comes back and it usually doesn’t take long at all for that to happen.

It’s easy to go to a store and buy a prepackaged weight loss program. Then, all you have to do is take it home, follow the directions, and, voila! Instant weight loss. The problem is that one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to losing weight. A product that works well for an energetic person with a high metabolism will not work the same way for a person who happens to be laid back and who has a slower metabolism.

Genetics

Some people can eat whatever they want without gaining weight while other folks are engaged in a continual struggle to avoid gaining weight. It doesn’t seem fair, but that’s the way life is sometimes.  Genetics can play a big role in how some people don’t gain weight and how easily some people lose it when they want to. The more you know about the way your body works, the better equipped you will be to make the adjustments you need to make to achieve your health objectives.

Seeing Results

Tatiane is happy with the results
she got with NutriMost
One of the biggest problems with most weight loss programs is that it takes forever to see results. You can work at a program that takes off a pound or two per week and be down a whole four or five pounds after a month. On the other hand, if you’re working a program where the results are five or more pounds per week, you’ll be wearing different clothes in two weeks.

In three or four weeks, family members and friends are going to begin commenting on how good you look. Wearing clothes that you haven’t been able to wear for a while and getting compliments on your looks are the kind of things that keep people motivated and moving forward. When losing weight is the objective, seeing results in a reasonable period of time is very important.

Going it alone

It’s amazing to see people who are seriously overweight go on The Biggest Loser and quickly take off a ton of weight in a short period of time. One of the things they have going for them is a coach like Gillian Michaels, who can get them motivated and keep them motivated. The coaches keep a close eye on their clients every step of the way.

That kind of supervision can help people to lose tremendous amounts of weight. When you have someone holding your hand and telling you what to do and what not to do, it’s much easier to stick with the program. Unfortunately, most folks can’t afford to hire a personal trainer like the ones on TV.

NutriMost – Customized Weight Loss

If you made a New year’s resolution to lose weight, but haven’t been able to stick with it, you may be hitting a bottom of sorts where you realize that in spite of your best efforts, the weight is not coming off. The good news is that help is available.

NutriMost is a customized weight loss program. Since each patient is unique, the way they burn fat and lose weight also will be different. For example, an underactive thyroid produces different levels of hormones than a more active thyroid. Those hormones affect the way a body burns calories. To get on the path to permanent weight loss, hormone levels and other factors must be taken into account.

NutriMost is always supervised by a doctor. I am a Board Certified Chiropractic Physician. I may not be able to supervise you to the degree the coaches do on TV shows, but I do make myself available to my patients to answer their questions and to address any concerns they may have as they go through the program.

When I get a text or an email from a patient, I always get back in touch with them ASAP, frequently in less than fifteen minutes. Keeping in close contact with my patients is a priority for me because I truly want them to succeed at losing weight. When they lose weight the right way, they begin to experience the kind of transformation that will make a very positive difference in their lives.

If you made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and you’ve been disappointed with the results you’ve been seeing, it’s time to try something else. NutriMost has worked for lots of people. Some of them have recorded testimonials which you can view. Take a look and see for yourself. Then check out NutriMost. It can be a game-changer in your effort to lose weight and to live a healthier life.

In this article, I have discussed the challenges some people face in losing weight. Those challenges include trying to lose weight on fad diets, on packaged weight loss programs, or on programs that provide no support. I’ve also discussed the difference between fat loss, which is desirable, and weight loss which may include the loss of muscle mass.

The Scale-side Manner of Dr. Jon Thomas

By  Dr. Jon Thomas D.C PSc.D, Board Certified Chiropractic Physician.

In the not-so-distant past, the personal connection between doctors and patients was commonly referred to as “bedside manner.” The interaction didn’t necessarily have to happen by a bed. It could also happen at the doctor’s office, at a hospital, or elsewhere. Patients who felt like their doctor really connected with them at the personal level would say that doctor had a good bedside manner.
Unfortunately, due to their patient loads and due to other demands of their profession, many doctors now have very little time for developing a good bedside manner. Doctors that do have a reputation for their personal touch are increasingly few and far between. Dr. Jon Thomas, the Director of the Vibrant Life Health Center, is one of them.
Many of the patients on the NutriMost Weight Loss program at Vibrant Life consent to recording testimonials about their experiences with NutriMost and Dr. Thomas.  Over and over, they say that the biggest difference between Vibrant Life and other programs they’ve tried was the personal connection they had with Dr. Thomas.  The opportunity to contact him whenever they had a problem or a question was something they simply haven’t seen elsewhere.
Dr. Thomas summed up his philosophy on his relationships with patients in a recent segment of First Coast Living. “It’s a blessing to be able to help patients who may have tried it all and never had the kind of success at losing weight that they were after,” he said. “I strongly believe in walking them through the weight loss and fat burning process. There’s more to it than handing people a box of prepackaged food and saying, ‘Here you go. Good luck.’ By the time patients finish a cycle of NutriMost, they’ve achieved success they can see both on their scale and in the mirror. They also have a foundation of knowledge to keep the weight off, and they know they always have a place they can go to find some help.”
You can lose pounds on a scale, but is that really helping you in the long run? NutriMost transforms how a person’s metabolism functions. Read these testimonials and check out the videos to see how NutriMost is changing people’s lives for the better.
Lee recently lost 26 pounds.

Lee appeared with Dr. Thomas recently on a segment of First Coast Living.
“I lost a total of 26 pounds. Dr. Thomas and his staff are fully committed to the success of the patients. NutriMost was surprisingly easy to do. They give you an actual menu with recipes. These are whole foods. These are not prepackaged foods. You can go to the grocery store to get your food.  This program teaches you how to be aware of what you’re putting into your body, the chemicals in foods and how they affect the brain and your overall health.
“At the start, I got a full body assessment to target my issues. NutriMost is not a cookie cutter program. It’s individualized based on the body chemistry and specific needs of the patient. Since finishing the program, it has been surprisingly easy to keep the weight off. You learn about trigger foods and foods that disrupt and cause you to get off balance again. Then you have a nutritional weapon that gets you back on track the next day. It has totally transformed the way I think about food, and not only for myself but for my entire family.
“Dr. Thomas proactively takes the journey with you. It’s not like calling the office and getting an appointment in six or seven days. Dr. Thomas is at your disposal twenty-four hours a day. He is fully invested. If you have any type of issue or concern he’s available immediately to address it and get you back on track. If you plateau, he’ll make a suggestion on what to try to get past it. If you’re at a point where you’re feeling hungry, he’ll tell you what to do.”
Bill lost 37 pounds in 40 days and then kept losing weight!
For some people, enough is not enough. 37 pounds in 40 days was great, but it wasn’t enough for Bill. Listen to his testimony on First Coast Living.
“I lost 37 pounds in 40 days and I’ve continued to lose weight. I’ve now lost a total of fifty pounds. If you listen and do what you’re told to do, you learn what you can and cannot eat. Getting on NutriMost was one of the best moves I’ve ever made in my life. I was skeptical because I’ve been on lots of other weight loss programs. Dr. Thomas does a lot of great things for his patients, but the number one thing for me was being able to stay in contact with him.
“I looked forward to each morning when I would start by weighing in and checking my blood pressure. I had high blood pressure and it’s down thirty points since I got on NutriMost. You learn what to eat and what not to eat. For example, I found out that turkey was a problem for me, mostly because of the sodium.  On the other hand, I also found out that there are some goodies, like M&Ms and Snickers bars, that don’t affect me at all.”
Body Composition Analysis
The starting point for NutriMost is getting a Body Composition Analysis (BCA). The BCA shows hormonal deficiencies and other nutritional deficiencies that inhibit a body’s ability to lose weight. With that information, Dr. Thomas will be able to develop the recipe that will turn a patient’s metabolism into a fat-burning machine.
Getting a BCA is completely painless and the cost is a very affordable $27.00. Are you ready to lose twenty pounds or more in 40 days? Call the Vibrant Life Health Center to schedule your appointment.

In this article, I have discussed doctors’ bedside manner and also scale-side manner. I’ve also written about the testimonials of two NutriMost patients who had phenomenal success with the program. NutriMost addresses both permanent weight loss and ongoing weight management.
